RESEARCH INTERESTS

Prof. Yu has extensive research and teaching experience in climate change, hydrology/hydrogeology and water resources. Innovative achievements have been made in mechanism of multi-components runoff generation and streamflow formation, theory and method of hydrological model, coupling and response of surface/subsurface water flow. Prof. Yu has completed over 50 research projects including being Principle Investigator of grants funded by the National Key R&D Program of China, National Basic Research Program of China (973 Program), National Science Funds for Creative Research Groups of China, National Natural Science Foundation of China as well as NSF, DOD, NASA of United States. He has published more than 400 papers which were cited more than 9700 times, and over 40 patents. Prof. Yu was awarded with the National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology 2015, with the First Prize of Natural Science Award, Ministry of Education of PRC 2020, with the First Prize of Dayu Water Science and Technology 2013, 2016 and 2021. He was selected as a fellow of Geological Society of America 2004, and won the John Hem Award of United States National Groundwater Association 2015, and titles of national excellent scientific and technological worker 2016 and the May Day Labor Medal of Jiangsu Province 2017.

Prof. Yu was elected as the president of UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Hydrological Programme (IHP) and chair of Regional Steering Committee for Asia and Pacific of UNESCO-IHP, promoting the development of global hydrological science and international cooperation in science and technology.
