The First Lancang-Mekong Water Science Young Leaders Training Courses was held in HHUIssuing time:2022-11-05 23:29 On November 5th, hosted by Hohai University and co-organized by Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center, UNESCO-IHP and IAHR-Hohai Higher Education and Continuing Education Committee, the first Lancang-Mekong Water Science Young Leaders training courses was held in our school. More than 100 young students and scholars from more than 10 countries including China, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Norway and Brazil participated in the training. Prof. Xu Weiya, vice president of Hohai University, delivered an opening speech. Zhao Hao, director of the Lancang-Mekong Water Resources Cooperation Center of the Ministry of Water Resources, and Prof. Zhongbo Yu, chairman of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Hydrological Program, delivered welcome speeches respectively. Professor Weixia Xu pointed out that Hohai University, as a world-leading university in water conservancy, has long been committed to the cultivation of high-level talents in international water conservancy, especially in promoting the cultivation of high-level professionals in the field of Lancang-Mekong water science. The Young Leaders Program” will further build a high-level talent training platform and a multilateral long-term cooperation mechanism in water science to strongly support Lancang-Mekong water resources cooperation. Professor Chongyu Xu, academician of the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters and the Norwegian Academy of Engineering, Professor Phouphet Kyophilavong of the National University of Laos, Professor Ignasius Sutapa, Director of the Asia-Pacific Ecohydrological Center of the International Hydrological Program of UNESCO, and Lian Lian, Chief Scientist of the Yangtze River Conservation and Green Development Institute of Hohai University Professor Yanqing attended the opening ceremony and gave lectures. Relevant leaders from the International Cooperation Office of Hohai University and the Lancang-Mekong Regional Research Center attended the opening ceremony. The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Ke Zhang, deputy director of the Yangtze River Conservation and Green Development Research Institute of Hohai University and deputy director of the Lancang-Mekong Regional Research Center of Hohai University. This Young Leaders Program focuses on water resources cooperation in the Lancang-Mekong region under climate change, and provides an international exchange platform for promoting the comprehensive management, development and utilization of water resources in the Lancang-Mekong region. |
